A panel of four experts, Keron Blair (activist and national organizer for the Alliance to Reclaim Our Schools), Marilyn Shank (Indiana Coalition for Public Education), Dr. Kristen Buras (professor of Education Policy Studies at Georgia State University), and Dr. Keith Benson (teacher, parent, and PhD student at Rutgers University) will help start an in-depth community discuss on education reform, also known as school choice and what the impact has been on communities of color and impoverished communities and school districts. This event will be moderated by Dr. Joseph L. Tucker Edmonds assistant professor at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI).
We must begin having discussions about the true impact of school choice, autonomy, education reform means for our children, their futures and our communities. This will be a very interactive event, the majority of the time will be spent hearing community member input, concerns and experiences about what is happening in education in Indianapolis, using the panel to frame the issues and provide expert insight, feedback and action steps. We will be inviting elected officials and candidates for elected office at all levels to this event to hear first-hand the voices of parents, students, educators and community members. Education issues must be THE main issue in 2020 elections.
Hosted by: IPS Community Coalition, Concerned Clergy; MLK Center; Parent Power; Parents Across America; Ed Community Action Team; Butler/ Tarkington Education Committee.
